An IT professional who takes on a job where they are not up to date on the work they are suppose to be doing, but take the job out of desperation due to lack of funds would need some sort of affordable professional liability insurance. A good example of this would be when someone takes a job working on a hosted Microsoft exchange server, but they really don’t know much about a hosted Microsoft exchange server. In this case, you are really leaving yourself open to error and thus a lawsuit. A company who hires someone who hasn’t worked on a hosted Microsoft exchange server, but yet requesting that kind of work isn’t very smart. It is up to the independent contractor and IT professional to specify this in an interview. Whether or not those specifications are made in the interview, an IT professional still needs to buy business liability insurance to protect themselves during a likely lawsuit given the scenario that I have just laid out.
